Termidor

A couple of years ago a new product Termidor was introduced to Stewarts. Stewarts embraced this new product and have found it to be one of the most successful barrier chemicals around.

Most chemicals act as repellents. So the termites that come directly in contact with the chemical die and other termites that have detected the chemical just continue along the barrier until they locate a breach or gap in the barrier. Once they have established a path into the building they can enter undetected.

Termidor on the other hand is non-repellent to termites. So the termites exposed to lower concentrates of Termidor don’t detect the chemical and will not try to avoid it. Therefore the termites will continue to forage through the affected soul unaware that they have been affected and that their days are numbered. If they make it to the stronger applied chemical then they will die on contact. As termites are social creatures and live in colonies, when an affected termites returns to the colony they share the infection around, other termites then become affected and are doomed. Through this unique “Transfer Effect” the chemical can cause some of the nest to be killed off or in some cases the entire nest. This process is aided by the fact that Termites may take weeks to die depending upon the concentrate of Termidor that the termites have been exposed to.

When applied the chemical moves through the soil away form the building and creates a buffer in the soil that has a decreased concentration of chemical the further it is from the building in the soil.

Termidor is one of the most tested termite chemical on the market. It has been tested in Australia in all states, and passed with flying colours. When testes were carried out it was found that control of termites can happen in as little as five to nine weeks. When applied at the correct rate the chemical has a life span of five years (providing the chemical has not broken down).

Termidor is a sage chemical once it has fried and bonded with the soil. It has a very slight odour, and is water based. It is essential that the chemical be applied at the correct rate to have maximum impact on the termites.

We as a company advise that any pets and humans are away from the property for two hours. This is a company recommendation beyond the chemical recommendation and is applied to any chemical treatments that we carry out.

Once the chemical barrier is applied Stewarts recommend that a Visual Annual Termite Inspection be carrier out at least every twelve months (as per Australian Standards). This is to ensure that the chemical barrier has not been broken down or been bridged, and to make any recommendation to prevent the barrier being broken down or being bridged.
